Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Associate/Assistant Professor in Architectural Structures in the Department of Architecture (Ref. 520923), to commence on September 1, 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.

The Department of Architecture is internationally recognised as one of the world’s best architectural schools. Design thinking is at the core of its values and the Department prides itself on providing an active and dynamic research environment.  The scholars and professionals who constitute the teaching staff of the Department represent a diversity of research interests.  The scale and breadth of case studies in the region offer a potential portfolio of innovative research projects and a laboratory structure offers opportunities to pool efforts, cross disciplinary boundaries and develop forums for exchange.  The Department offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in an intense and demanding environment, where staff members take an active part in shaping the Department’s culture through both teaching and administrative responsibilities.  The promising and energetic community of students come from Hong Kong, Mainland China, Asia, and across the world. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in the relevant field or a closely related field.  Full membership in professional institutions of Architecture or Engineering is preferred. They should also have teaching experience in architectural structures and design programmes, and a demonstrated track record in academic research.

The appointee is expected to conduct research and teach undergraduate and postgraduate students in the area of fundamental structural behavior and principles as well as the basis of structural design, analysis and planning of the broad spectrum of structures relevant to architects. The teaching is intended to provide a strong grounding in fundamental principles and working knowledge of structures to support a healthy integration with architectural design education at all levels of the undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum.  The appointees who teach structures courses will be encouraged to participate in and provide support to the architectural design studios and work with design teachers in the studio context.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.  The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 15% of basic salary.  Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
