Los Angeles based real estate company is searching for a creative, licensed and personally inspired, architect (contract to hire) to become the lead in-house studio architect for our innovative and rapidly growing multifamily development, manufacturing, and integrated construction company.  Our company is disruptive in nature and applies innovative prefabricated building practices to design and construct dense, multifamily residential apartment homes across Southern California. The company’s existing operating platform is vertical integrated and marries the building methods of prefabricated manufacturers with traditional production builders to build smart, efficient and environmentally sustainable buildings.

The company is focused on hiring a Lead Architect to lead the development of a proprietary architectural design library that utilizes our offsite prefabricated panel construction system, and a “kit of parts” building system approach, to construct high-quality and well-designed, workforce housing for families, extended families, and shared housing users.

The architect’s general responsibilities will be to work with the company’s acquisition, design, and construction teams to formulate design proposals, prepare site plans, architectural drawings, construction documents, and manage project teams. To be successful in this position, you should be able to visualize space in three dimensions, have a good understanding of construction technologies, work collaboratively with senior team leaders and be an effective project manager.

The position will specifically require experience in the development of design and construction documents from conceptual design through project delivery that are functional, creative, and align with the companies green building approach. Applicants should be able to produce complete Construction Documents coordinating multiple disciplines, including Structural Engineers, MEP Engineers and other consultants as required. Candidates must be able to work independently with professional time management and leadership skills as well.

Architect Responsibilities and Essential Duties:

  • Success in this position is dependent on not only being creative but, having strong communication skills, excellent follow-through, being detail-oriented, and having the desire of joining a team that is focused on innovative design and construction solutions to building homes.
  • The ideal candidate will bring a unique architectural skill set that resembles the companies, can be versatile in his/her design approach, is capable of adapting, and can produce high quality custom designs for multifamily product in a short amount of time.
  • Utilizing creativity and innovation to think outside the box, position will be responsible for developing and presenting project designs that comply with applicable building code requirements for all projects and be capable of adjusting designs and plans to meet the company’s needs when needed. Qualified applicant will also manage, or assist our fabrication and construction team, in the administration of projects including bidding, shop drawings, and undertaking periodic on-site observation of work during construction to monitor compliance with construction documents.
  • Candidate should have excellent and clear communication skills to be used in a collaborative environment with team members and consultants throughout the project development in all phases.
  • You will work collaboratively with our internal design and management group, and oversee the company’s studio team, to design projects from concept development through to completion of permitting approvals, including preparation of all site plans, architectural renderings, construction drawings, building specification and related documents.
  • Position will require an understanding of building costs, and drivers of those costs, while managing the design process to produce a buildable design that is within established cost parameters of the company.
  • He/She must be able to coordinate workload involving multiple projects being designed simultaneously, produce outputs on schedule and be capable of readily identifying and resolving potential design conflicts during the development of architectural documents.

Architect Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Architecture (BARCH) degree
  • Licensed Architect
  • LEED BD + C preferred (not required)
  • 5-10 years of Architectural experience in designing and managing Multifamily Residential Projects.  Experience specific to prefabricated construction methods is preferred but not required.
  • Prefer specific knowledge of City of Los Angeles building codes and regulatory standards.
  • Proficient in Revit, AutoCad, Newforma & Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrated high order of architectural competence, both as an individual and as a leader within a small team.
  • Excellent communication skills both written & verbal.
  • Must be collaborative and enjoy working as part of a small team.
  • Fast learner, self-starter, and ability to complete multiple tasks with minimal direction.

This position will start as a Contract with the potential to hire full time.
