The Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) is looking for a technical coordinator to support the practice and technical department.

The role involves working with the practice and technical director, vice president technical and vice president practice to interpret and respond to technical legislative, regulatory and policy information as it relates to architectural technology, CIAT and its membership, and to ensure it is promoted clearly to the membership.

  • initially two days per week; six months fixed term contract with potential for contract to be extended beyond initial term

Key functions:

  • support the management of the technical work of the institute, with an initial focus on the Building Safety Act 2022 and related secondary legislation
  • research, analyse and interpret technical information, policy, legislation and regulations as they relate to architectural technology, CIAT and its membership
  • write, develop and review the institute’s technical guidance on compliance with topical issues, legislation etc in consultation with the relevant taskforces
  • lead the development of CIAT responses to technical/industry consultations
  • work closely with the relevant taskforces and vice presidents, and review and improve engagement with the wider membership to encourage greater input
  • engage with policymakers and regulators as related to this role
  • attend internal and external meetings as appropriate

Candidate specification:

  • a credible authority on technical matters which impact on architectural
    technology, CIAT and its membership
  • have substantial proven experience in a technical role within construction
    and the built environment, or possess significant knowledge and evidence of the practical application of technical information in this field
  • be proactive and agile in responding to the challenges and opportunities in
    the ever-changing built environment sector, such as building safety, sustainability, net zero carbon and so on
  • have exceptional attention to detail, be an excellent communicator and have a thirst for continuous improvement – your ability to communicate clearly and concisely is paramount in both written and spoken form so that messaging, guidance and information produced is clear, concise and accurate
  • should be educated to degree level or hold equivalent experience in the built
    environment
  • must be able to demonstrate current eligibility to work in the UK
