SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Senior Project Manager/Project Architect position is responsible for the leadership and delivery of the project through the design, production, and construction phases and works directly with the Principal In Charge and Job Captain in confirming the design program, scope of work, and delivery requirements. The Senior PM/PA shall be responsible for the management and documentation of the project and shall demonstrate a thorough understanding of building codes, project work plan planning, project construction costs, building materials, construction detailing, and consultant scope management and coordination. The Senior PM/PA shall demonstrate professional knowledge in designing to meet the governmental regulations, zoning and building codes, and current building industry standards.

The Senior PM/PA may act as the primary client, consultant, and contractor contact during the documentation and construction of a project, and he or she leads the internal team working on the production and coordination of the design development and construction documents, working directly with junior staff and consultants to ensure the drawings and specifications are coordinated and properly represent the design intent.

The Senior PM/PA is expected to demonstrate professional knowledge and expertise, attention to detail, design sense, and sound judgment. Continuous learning and staying current with professional and technical developments are required. Additional key responsibilities are sharing professional knowledge, quality assurance, motivating others, and establishing successful project teams.

The successful candidate shall be a licensed architect, with a minimum of 10 years of experience with large and complex commercial architectural projects.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participates on and/or leads multiple project teams as Senior Project Architect / Project Manager
  • Participates with other senior management in developing and validating project scope and fee, budget, and scope of services during the marketing and contract development process
  • Consistently provides complete and timely communication of project information to and from clients and the project architect team
  • Responsible for tracking project invoices and consultants’ billings
  • Assists senior management in the preparation and execution of consultant contracts
  • Leads architectural project team in gathering appropriate project data and setup of project files, coordinating with junior staff, design collaborators, and consultants at project start-up
  • Leads architectural team in determining applicable governmental regulations and codes and overseeing that documentation and contracts are in compliance with requirements of Authorities Having Jurisdiction
  • Leads the architectural team in setting up the internal work plans and list of deliverables and regularly updating project work plans for review with the project principal and internal team
  • Leads less experienced team members with architectural questions and office practices, and mentors more junior staff
  • Communicates with consultants, contractors, sub-consultants, and other disciplines to ensure project details are carried out including technical issues and project information at all levels of contract administration
  • Responsible for maintaining client relationships throughout the project.  Keeps client apprised of project progress on a regular basis. Initiates and maintains contact with other key project individuals to clarify, coordinate, and negotiate critical issues
  • Works with Job Captain to develop a cartoon set of drawings sets and outline specifications
  • Leads efforts on all code analysis and floor area tabulations
  • Responsible for overseeing the documentation of any program or scope changes, coordinating with consultants on adding service scopes and proposals, and generating Additional Service Request letters to the owner
  • Leads the Quality Control Review of Project Documentation
  • Leads Building Permit Submittal Set preparation, strategy with respect to responses to Agency corrections, and discussions with agency staff in all verification meetings
  • Leads construction administration activities including RFI’s, Shop Drawing and submittal review, Change Order, and site observation reports
  • Leads Project Close-Out Procedures
  • Plans, organizes, and manages the overall project team.  Provides ongoing communication through team meetings/minutes/up-date memos to the overall project team
  • Solves complex project issues by providing team support and assists in developing solutions to technical problems
  • Assures project inter-disciplinary and quality control coordination
  • Works with other Project Managers to assure all projects are properly staffed and to avoid or eliminate conflicts in schedule due to the changes in various projects

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires a professional degree in Architecture and 10+ years in the practice of commercial architecture. A current California professional architectural registration license is expected for this position. It is essential that the candidate have the strong management and communication skills needed to lead a team and maintain strong client relationships. All documentation is produced with Autodesk Revit, and management of BIM coordination efforts as well as experience with production in Revit is preferred. Skills with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, and Newforma are a plus. The position will offer a full benefits package upon hiring; salary is contingent upon the level of experience.
