RBD is seeking a Senior Designer to work under the Principal to lead on all aspects of the design process, from Initial Design Study through to Installation & Styling.  The Senior Designer will manage a team of 2+ designers and serve as RBD’s lead to conceptualize the project as a whole, set the initial design direction, and drive critical aesthetic & technical decisions throughout the design and construction process, for both the client and full project team.  The ideal candidate will have 8+ years of experience in high-end residential interior design with excellent presentation, communication, leadership, and drafting skills.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and articulate the client’s goals and requirements; Develop documents, drawings and diagrams that outline those needs.
  • Develop overall design for projects and oversee the interior design intent for each project from concept stage through installation
  • Serve as primary interface with the client, consultants and project team with regard to concept development, design presentations, project management, construction administration & installation
  • Develop design sketches, layouts and details based on initial sketches in tandem with team and Principal
  • Manage and review construction documents
  • Review engineering and other consultant drawings to ensure they comply with design intention
  • Lead design and implementation of custom furniture and millwork
  • Research, source and select FF&E and FF&A for projects
  • Oversee preparation of client FF&E and FF&A budgets and specifications
  • Prepare specifications and schedules with accurate product information for all furniture, lighting and materials
  • Ensure that all presentation materials and project documents meet RBD standard
  • Participate in site meetings with owner, consultants and contractors including installation
  • Efficiently manage and delegate to designers, design assistants, and interns on project team; demonstrate strong managerial, leadership and communication skills; Interact effectively with the RBD design team on multiple concurrent projects
  • Interface with Principal on project design development, design process, and project progress

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent experience in Interior Design, Architecture or related field
  • 8+ years of interior design experience in residential or hospitality design
  • Extensive knowledge of design principles, aesthetics, and space planning methodology and ability to independently drive a project from start to finish
  • Extensive knowledge of furnishings and finishes
  • Extensive knowledge of interior architectural detailing
  • Extensive knowledge of Construction Documents and procedures
  • Extensive knowledge of budget preparation, tracking, and management
  • Extensive knowledge of AutoCAD and InDesign
  • Extensive knowledge of custom furniture and millwork design
  • Proficient rendering skills; hand sketching a plus
  • Familiarity with local residential building codes
  • Familiarity in Sketch-Up and Studio Designer a plus
  • Minimum of 3 days in San Francisco office per week
  • Full COVID-19 vaccination
  • A love for interior design, the design process, & client services
