Space Exploration is seeking an experienced project manager to oversee multiple new and ongoing projects. Fluency in all aspects of the interior design of complex residential and hospitality projects is a significant advantage.
Space Exploration is a design-focused firm that specializes in sensitively detailed adaptive reuse projects infused with warmth, character, and modern flourishes. Our small, integrated team is a meritocracy where every voice is heard and valued. We’re looking for a new colleague who shares our outlook to join our team.
With an impeccable eye for organization and keen sensitivity to budget and schedule, the project manager handles design and coordination duties to keep our most important and complex projects running smoothly. The project manager’s role is creativity-driven, technically-focused, practicality-minded, and client-facing. Duties include delegating and overseeing design work produced by intermediate and junior designers, managing all aspects of consultant and vendor coordination, creating and managing schedules and budgets, tracking submittals, and managing RFI submittals and SK logs. The project manager reports to the principal and manages intermediate and junior design staff.
The successful candidate should have at least four years of experience with design and coordination. Nimble design skills and strong construction administration experience is essential. Fluency (or at least familiarity) with code compliance as well as a comfortable understanding of the landscape of NYC-based AHJs is important. Licensure is a plus. Candidates who possess significant experience with complex projects will receive preference for this position.
It’s important to us that the successful candidate lives in New York City or within daily commuting range — regular presence onsite is a prerequisite for this role, as is in-person meetings with clients, contractors, vendors, consultants and other members of our team. Space Exploration offers flexibility in working from home or at our office, as the needs of various projects dictate.
Our offices are in an airy, high-ceilinged loft on the Greenpoint waterfront. We occasionally meet at the office for in-person internal design reviews and client presentations, but otherwise we embrace a flexible approach to remote work for team members who prefer it.
Space Exploration offers a competitive salary and benefits package, a positive, inclusive culture, and a humane work-life balance.
