Are you an architect who still loves to get your hands dirty and actually build what you design? Walker Workshop, an award winning, Los Angeles based architecture firm, is looking for that special someone who can design in Revit, and step out onto the construction site and transition into the role of Construction Project Manager or Superintendent (depending on experience). You will work on a complete residential remodel of a historical Los Angeles home designed by one of the mid-century modern masters. For the first six months, you will work under the supervision of principal architect, Noah Walker, and our team of associates, to issue a permit set and a set of construction documents. After permitting, you will work with our Director of Construction on pre-construction tasks, and ultimately move into construction.
As Construction Project Manager or Superintendent, you will be responsible for: keeping construction moving forward, on schedule, on budget and meeting Walker Workshop design quality standards. You will be: scheduling crews, monitoring day-to-day construction tasks, ensuring that sub-contractors are building to plan details, scheduling and passing city inspections, working with accounting to track all change orders and cost expenditures, sometimes even picking up a hammer or saw to assist in prepping an area for a trade to start their work. You will report to the Director of Construction, but you will also work collaboratively with the Walker Workshop construction team to share in best practices and means & methods that guarantee a quality product.
Ideally, you will have some on-site construction experience managing new builds or re-models, as well as experience working with an architectural team to issue SD, DD and CD sets. Fabrication experience, either designing or reviewing shop drawings is also a plus, as is experience as a carpenter, furniture maker, welder, etc. While this sounds like a lot, at the end of the day, we are looking for an architect, who still enjoys being a ‘maker’ that loves to build things.
Thank you for your interest in working at Walker Workshop.
We look forward to hearing from you.
