Selection of current significant projects

  • Vision, planning, and design for a city block in the downtown Old Port neighborhood of Portland.
  • Design and planning for a proposed ground-up building with a world-renowned design studio that would be the tallest occupied structure in Northern New England.
  • Acquisition through construction of a significant historic tax credit rehabilitation, hospitality conversion, and retail renovation for a circa 1867 structure.

Project Architect
The Project Architect is responsible for aiding in the design and management of all development-related projects at East Brown Cow from project conceptualization and planning through design, permitting, and construction. This position reports to the Director of Development and is required to work closely with all EBC staff as well as tenants, architects, engineers, interior designers, contractors, consultants, lawyers, project managers, and local/city, state, and federal government officials, among others. This is a full-time salaried/exempt position.

Key Responsibilities
Design

  • Offer design services on a project-by-project basis, such as:
    • Conduct site surveys, field verifications, and schematic-level test-fit plans.
    • Aid in the creation of design-phase documents.
    • Ability to review all deliverables for quality, accuracy, and completeness.
    • Assist in construction permitting.
    • Sourcing, selecting, and compiling project-related specifications such as architectural and interior finishes.
  • Act as an in-house designer and architect for select renovation and improvement projects.
  • Produce architectural and interiors material for marketing and leasing purposes.

Planning

  • Participate in master planning for applicable larger development projects.
  • Assist in the process of long-term development planning for existing assets and potential acquisitions.
  • Coordinate research and documentation of historic preservation and rehabilitation planning of locally and nationally registered historic properties.
  • Aid in the creation of design and construction RFPs for future development.

Project Management

  • Administratively assist in the management of all development projects from conceptualization through completion.
  • Oversee EBC’s use of the Autodesk Construction Cloud project management platform by specifying and organizing all development processes, including locating all mid to large scale construction and development projects on the platform.
  • Coordinate and review 3D scanning surveys (point cloud and BIM modeling) of existing assets.

Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum 3-5 years of full-time post-graduate work experience in an architectural practice.
  • Undergraduate, Graduate, or Professional Degree in Architecture from an accredited institution.
  • Registered Architect.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit/BIM, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to manage and coordinate with partners and clients.
  • Highly knowledgeable of design and construction processes on commercial projects.
  • Solid and creative conceptual, graphic, and design skills demonstrated in a sample of work.
  • Have an exceptional attention to detail.

Preferred

  • Experience working with project management tools such as Autodesk Construction Cloud and/or Procore.
  • Strong skills in Rhino and rendering software such as V-Ray or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with green building standards such as LEED, Energy Star, and WELL.
  • Knowledge of BOMA measurement standards.

Working Conditions

  • Designated office and working hours are 8:30AM to 5:00PM Monday to Friday.
  • The Project Architect needs to be available to either respond to or assist/triage a development-related emergency outside of traditional business hours. This may result in more than 40 hours of work occurring during some weeks.
