Interior Architect – Mid to Senior Level
Northworks Architects & Planners is seeking a talented mid- to senior-level Interior Architect to join our Chicago studio. This role is ideal for designers with a strong background in interior architecture and a passion for high-end residential design.
You will play a key role in leading interior architecture efforts, contributing to project design direction, overseeing technical documentation, and mentoring junior team members within a collaborative studio environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support the development of interior architecture for residential and hospitality projects
- Oversee and produce detailed interior drawing sets, including plans, elevations, sections, millwork details, and schedules
- Guide material, finish, and fixture selections, ensuring clear documentation and coordination
- Collaborate closely with project managers, architects, and designers across the firm
- Work closely with and seek direction from the Interiors Creative Director and the Director of Interior Architecture
- Provide mentorship, technical guidance, and quality oversight for junior staff
- Coordinate with vendors, consultants, and contractors to ensure design intent is maintained
- Participate in project delivery from concept design through construction administration
Qualifications
- 5–10 years of professional experience in architecture or interior architecture (custom residential experience preferred)
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture or Interior Architecture from an accredited institution
- Highly skilled with Revit and/or AutoCAD
- Experience with visualization tools such as Enscape, Lumion, SketchUp, and Autodesk programs
- Strong design sensibility with demonstrated experience developing cohesive interior concepts
- Excellent communication, coordination, and organizational skills
- Experience mentoring or overseeing the work of junior team members
- Ability to work full-time, in person, at our Chicago studio
