Junior Interior Designer

JOB SUMMARY:

The Interior Designer will provide support to the design team.  Successful candidates will be able to manage the design deliverables for multiple projects at a time, coordinating with external consultants as well as the internal production team. This role will work in partnership with leadership to in make sound technical decisions for building design and construction.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct and verify programming with clients, as required by project type.
  • Work with the project manager and the project designer in creating interior environments which serve the client’s goals and responds to their desired spatial needs, image, and aesthetic requirements.
  • Develop code compliant designs.
  • Develop presentation materials including 3D renderings.
  • Lead and participate in design presentations to the client.
  • Participate in the projects’ in-house design review presentations.
  • Collaborate with lighting designer to develop lighting concepts and initial fixture selection.
  • Coordinate work with other disciplines.
  • Collaborate with the design team in articulating design principles that help govern the detailing phase of the project.
  • Execute and enhance the design intent while preparing the construction documents.
  • Work with architecture and the engineering disciplines to ensure a consistent development of the project towards the design concepts established in earlier phases.
  • Selecting appropriate finish material, color palettes and furnishings.
  • Develop finish plans, finish specifications, material selections and other technical requirements of the project needed for construction.

  • Prepare furniture budgets, as required by client.
  • Prepare submittal responses, shop drawing review and construction site visits.
  • Prepare interiors and furniture punch lists.
  • Participate in interviews for potential project work.

MANAGEMENT DUTIES:

  • Supervise and mentor less experienced designers in above tasks.
  • Supervise and mentor less experienced designers in above tasks (for applicants having 6+ years’ experience.

PROJECT SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Develop project and furniture specifications and other technical requirements of projects.
  • Decision making, facilities planning, and holding the standards for a premier client. Act as the primary JacobsWyper Architects contact person within this project.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • 3+ years’ experience in an architectural or interior design office.
  • Ability to survey/measure spaces and create accurate background drawings and/or the ability to direct less-experienced designers on how to do so.
  • Strong knowledge of construction documents and procedures, construction detailing and material application.
  • Solid understanding of building and life safety codes.
  • Proven ability to participate in the design, documentation, and construction administration process.
  • Creativity and strong conceptual design skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to use sound and independent judgement.
  • Must demonstrate a strong commitment to quality.
  • Able to manage multiple projects.
  • Enthusiastic and passionate about design.
  • Team player and ability to collaborate.
  • Listening and problem-solving skills.
  • 2D and 3D design skills.
  • Organizational skills. Able to maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively meet deadlines.
  • An interest or expertise in sustainable design is a plus.
  • Proficient in Revit.
  • Familiarity or willingness to learn Enscape.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Proficient in BlueBeam Revu.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in Interior Design or Architecture.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Located in Philadelphia, PA, with travel between Philadelphia, PA, Raleigh, NC and Austin, TX 4 times a year up to 8 as needed.
