Junior Designer and Real Estate Development Associate

CO-
Location: San Francisco, CA, USA
Added on: 26 Mar 2024, Job offer expires on: 30 Apr 2024

Job Description

CO- (Collective Operations) seeks candidates for a hybrid Junior Designer and Real Estate Developer position on a full-time basis. CO- practices Architecture, Urban Design, and Real Estate Development in parallel and pursues equilibrium between design excellence and project feasibility. Current projects of interest include multi-family housing new construction and rehabilitation projects in California.

The role is for an entry-level, hybrid position as both a Junior Designer and Development Associate. Candidates should possess a degree in architecture or a related design field. While a general understanding of the real estate development process and a willingness to learn more about it is necessary, prior development experience is not required.

Development Associates assist with securing project funding, coordinating consultants, and liaising with local approval organizations while contributing to other aspects of the development phase. They would report to the development director, while occasionally working with other directors and development and design staff.

Junior Designers work within a design team to advance and deliver Design Projects. Responsibilities include developing design iterations and concepts, conducting site analysis and design research, creating 3D and physical models, producing visualization and documentation, and coordinating material options.

Candidates will generally move between design and development roles as required by individual project phases.

Candidates must be fluent in written and spoken English, with additional language abilities considered a plus, and must currently be authorized to work in the United States. The role is based in San Francisco and will initially be in person, with the possibility for more workplace flexibility as the candidate grows into the role.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A professional degree in architecture.
  • 2+ years of experience working on design in a professional setting, having seen projects through multiple phases.
  • Very strong design sensibility.
  • The ability to visualize clearly and compellingly in 2D and 3D with Adobe, Rhino, and various rendering engines.
  • Ability to structure their own work process and work independently while incorporating team feedback.
  • Strong visual representation skills that emphasize clarity, precision, innovation, and productivity.
  • Strong communication abilities.
  • Familiarity with project documentation and Revit.
  • Ability to design for multiple scales and timelines.
  • Knowledge of real estate finance and development and construction processes.
  • Experience in real estate finance.
  • A working ability in Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong familiarity with the California Building Code.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and accountable.
  • The ability to structure their own work process and work independently while incorporating team feedback.
  • Curiosity to learn about the capacity to acquire new skills

Please submit a letter of interest that directly addresses your fit for both the real estate development and architectural design aspects of the position, CV, and Portfolio (max 20 mb) to office@co-operations.org with the subject line “Junior Designer/Developer”.
