The Opportunity
The Architectural League of New York seeks an outstanding, mission-driven leader with a breadth and depth of knowledge and passion for architecture and the interdisciplinary fields of the built environment to serve as its Executive Director.
The new Executive Director will work collaboratively with the Board, staff and broader membership to create programming and initiatives that advance critical thinking and innovative practice in the built environment. They will succeed Rosalie Genevro, who in 2022 announced that she will be stepping down after more than 37 years in the role.
The next Executive Director will have a rare opportunity to lead the next chapter of growth for an organization that plays a vital role in fostering robust exchange and supporting the wide array of practitioners and critical thinkers who contribute to, and engage, the interdisciplinary fields of the built environment, including architecture, engineering, landscape architecture, and urbanism.
The Executive Director will lead the organization’s ongoing growth and development amidst a robust conversation about the evolving role of architecture in society. Amid growing concerns about global climate change as well as racial and economic inequities in communities around the globe, The League has the opportunity to convene, catalyze and shape important conversations about the role architecture landscape, urban design, planning and preservation play in fostering healthier, more equitable and sustainable communities.
Reporting to The League’s Board of Directors, the Executive Director will be responsible for ensuring the overall success of the organization, with a particular emphasis on leading a team of highly-motivated and experienced individuals in a collaborative work environment, providing strategic clarity for The League’s future development, and ensuring the financial and revenue growth necessary to sustain the organization’s current and future ambitions.
