Nelson Byrd Woltz Landscape Architects is seeking a Communications Specialist to join our team in the Charlottesville, VA or New York, NY office. The person in this position will contribute to most every aspect of the department’s production. Graphic and writing and editing skills are crucial for participating and contributing to processes.

Broadly, the Communications Specialist would:

  • Co-lead daily and/or weekly meetings with the Communications team to prioritize and delegate tasks
  • Assist in tracking and executing contracts with firm clients and sub-consultants
  • Oversee the coordination and production of upcoming publications, in particular an upcoming firm monograph
  • Assist the team and sometimes drive / manage RFQ and RFP production tasks (for this a thorough understanding of the firm’s mission, design process, values, and experience will be crucial)
  • Contribute to new publications on the firm’s work – from writing to text editing to graphic design
  • Contribute to web and social media tasks
  • Participate in the production and commissioning of video work
  • Assist with research for firm projects
  • Organize and maintain digital files and images
  • Assist in the strategizing and production of project material from logos and wayfinding to interpretive and narrative strategies
  • Coordinate press and media with PR consultant and press contacts

About the Communications Specialist Candidate

Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills are required, likewise a proven interest or experience in landscape architecture, architecture, design, or science communication. The ability to prioritize deadlines and keep connected to the production team, often consisting of designers and communication staff, will be key.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree
  • At least 1-3 years of applicable experience
  • Knowledge and interest in developing Adobe Creative Suite skills; preference for proficiency
  • Rigorous attention to detail
  • Proven ability to make significant contributions to text development and essential writing and editing processes with experience preferably in design or related disciplines
  • CAD, 3-D modeling or GIS software knowledge a plus but not required
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize and meet concurrent deadlines
