Title: Capital Projects Estimating Coordinator

NYC Parks is a design award-winning city agency that builds and cares for public spaces for New Yorkers to connect, play and enjoy. NYC Parks manages more than 30,000 acres or 14% of the city’s land, encompassing more than 5,000 individual properties. Our diverse set of assets include recreational facilities, nature centers, historic buildings and structures, golf courses, athletic fields, playgrounds, tennis courts, public pools, public restrooms, retaining walls and nearly 14 miles of beaches.

 

The Capital Division at NYC Parks is responsible for managing the design, construction, and administration of capital projects to expand, improve, and revitalize these public spaces.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Under direction of the Deputy Director of Capital Estimating, perform responsible work in the planning, implementation, coordination, monitoring and evaluation of landscape architecture projects for the Capital Projects Division.
  • Conduct quantity estimating and prepare comprehensive manpower, equipment and material project costs for in-house designed landscape architecture projects. Typical project scopes include the reconstruction and new development of parks, playgrounds, athletic fields, sports courts, field lighting, fencing, green infrastructure, storm water management and waterfront structures.
  • Work with landscape architects and New York City community boards to align project scopes and estimates at several milestones throughout the design process to ensure projects are within allocated budgets.
  • Conduct research and develop unit costs for various standard and custom park construction items using specialized estimating software.
  • Review project costs prepared by consultant designers and recommend modifications, if needed.
  • Prepare new needs estimates for potential project sites to facilitate Agency requests for capital funded improvements to park assets.
  • Formulate independent cost estimates for change order work in construction.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
  • High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1” or “2” above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in “1” above.

 

Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam, or Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city service. New York City residency required within 90 days of hire for all other candidates.

 

PREFERRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS  

  • A baccalaureate degree in Engineering, Construction, Architecture or Landscape Architecture.
  • Thorough understanding of general construction pricing.
  • Ability to accurately read construction documents and specifications.
  • A thorough understanding of prevailing wage laws and other applicable City procurement rules and regulations.
  • Experience with Sage-Timberline estimating software. Strong computer skills including AutoCAD.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Valid New York State driver license.

 

Salary: $59,116- $91,768

 

Work Location: Olmsted Center, Queens
