About the Role

The Senior Project Architect (SPA) is a key technical member in the success and delivery of our project work. Also known at GGLO as a Technical Lead, Senior Project Architects have the technical responsibility for leading the project team in executing the design concept of a project through construction documents. For this, the SPA must understand and keep an eye on the big picture, while simultaneously being entrenched in the details. The success of a project, starting from concept through construction relies on the clarity, coordination, completeness, accuracy, and overall quality of our project documents. The SPA must coordinate the many aspects of a project in order to achieve the desired result- great design delivered through great document sets.

The Senior Project Architect also serves as mentor and resource to the Boise office. Candidates shall have experience leading both internal project and external consultant teams. The role must have the ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously while working in close partnership with the Project Manager, Design Lead and Principal in Charge. This role will have an aspect of Quality Management within the local office and the broader firm.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Design Execution/Team Management

  • Demonstrate understanding of the larger context and impact of design
  • Understand the implications and timing of overall project schedule
  • Collaborate with Design Lead and Project Manager to develop, manage and coordinate project work plan
  • Communicate effectively with Project Manager, Project Designer, and other internal stakeholders
  • Effectively advance and explore design opportunities offered by each project
  • Demonstrate the utilization of a clear and open process for solving problems
  • Guide production team tasks and goals for meeting document development standards and deadlines
  • Effectively perform work requiring independent judgment and problem solving
  • Possess knowledge of the phases of the design process and construction
  • Possess knowledge of materials and detailing
  • Act as coach and mentor for other architects and production staff
  • Possess knowledge and understanding of sustainable design practices and programs

Quality Management

  • Understand building and zoning code and regulations governing the industry and ability to perform research
  • Review consultant drawings for technical accuracy and coordination
  • Understand and coordinate specifications with spec writer
  • Develop a complete understanding of GGLO quality management process and procedures
  • Demonstrate thorough understanding of BIM Execution Plan in order to support BIM Lead
  • Participate in Quality Management reviews for projects in the Boise/Mountain West office

Client Coordination

  • Assist PM in communication to the client, contractor, and other internal and external stakeholders
  • Oversee team coordination with contractors, consultants and authorities having jurisdiction
  • Advise project teams and client groups on effective implementation of project design strategies and delivery methods

Financial Management

  • Understand scope of work and coordinate consultant team
  • Competently manage time and priorities and communicate them to the project team

Requirements

  • Licensed Architect
  • 12+ years experience in a professional design office setting with a focus in multifamily projects
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office Suite and other design delivery tools
  • Understanding of all aspects and phases of the architectural production process, major building systems, detailing, and constructability
  • Ability to understand best practices associated with technical implications of design decisions
  • Experienced in the production of quality construction documents and directing other production staff and consultant teams in the preparation of those documents
  • Current authorization to work in the United States
