WHY New York seeks Junior Interior Designer

Based in Los Angeles and New York, WHY was founded by Kulapat Yantrasast in 2004 and has established itself in the international design vanguard for widely-acclaimed projects that serve the arts, communities, and the environment. The 40+ person practice is structured as five workshops focusing on Ideas, Buildings, Landscape Museums and Objects—allowing us to approach projects from multiple angles to develop holistic, experience-driven solutions that are also provocative and unique. Job Overview

The Junior Designer will assist on design-related tasks for a range of projects. He/she will participate in all aspects of the design process, including drafting of floor plans, furniture plans, lighting plans, elevations, millwork details and custom furniture, preparing client presentations, sourcing fabrics, furniture and lighting and associated vendor correspondence to obtain pricing and lead times. They will also work with Lead Interior Designer and Creative Director to administratively support all aspects of the interior design process, through installation.

The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic self‐starter willing to roll up his/her sleeves and wear many hats.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Experience in all project phases from concept to installation
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, working with staff and clients
  • 1-3 years of experience in commercial interior design. Cultural, hospitality and education project experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrates a strong balance of technical expertise and conceptual design skills
  • Computer modeling and rendering including proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit and Adobe Programs
  • Advanced skills in 3D modelling/rendering representation tools. Rhino, Sketchup, AutoCAD and Adobe Suite required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate with other design disciplines important.
  • Works well in a fast-paced environment with multiple tasks, priorities, and deadlines

Qualifications

  • Professional Degree (Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, in Interior Design and/or Architecture)
  • Minimum of 2 years of commercial interior design experience (should be able to showcase finished/built work)
  • Computer modeling and rendering including proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit and Adobe Programs
  • Understanding of FFE Specification and coordination with purchasing agents
  • 3-D Modeling and Renderings skills in Enscape, 3D Studio Max, Rhino, or Sketch-Up a plus

Position Type, Compensation & Benefits:

  • This is a full time, exempt position that is salaried with benefits.
  • Compensation: Depends highly on experience, but we offer base salaries at or above market rates.
