Title: Green Infrastructure Designer

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Under supervision, perform hydrologic calculations and environmental engineering work of moderate difficulty focused on stormwater management and green infrastructure projects.
  • Investigate and propose stormwater management designs which integrate stormwater capture into existing Parkland.
  • Conduct and direct site investigations to evaluate drainage area, flow, soil permeability, groundwater and other site conditions to determine feasibility of green stormwater infrastructure designs.
  • Prepare concept design and design details for stormwater, green infrastructure and other projects.
  • Prepare contract drawings, engineer estimates, engineering calculations, specifications and cost estimates.
  • Coordinate design work with Parks Divisions and partner agencies.
  • Review consultant contract drawings, specifications, and construction estimates, provide quality control, and prepare comments.
  • Manage consultant contracts, track schedules and deliverables, prepare and submit reports.
  • Assess and monitor progress of construction by reviewing and approving Requests for Information, submittals, and shop drawings.
  • Monitor construction operations for compliance with contract specifications and documents; review and resolve design conflicts during construction. Conduct site inspections for quality assurance.
  • Assist landscape architects and project managers with the above tasks.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

(Assistant Environmental Engineer – Job ID# 433603)

  • A Baccalaureate degree in environmental, chemical, mechanical, petroleum, aeronautical, or materials engineering from an accredited college or university and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in environmental engineering work; or  
  • A Baccalaureate degree in environmental, chemical, mechanical, petroleum, aeronautical, or materials engineering from an accredited college and master’s degree in environmental engineering from an accredited college

 

A master’s degree in environmental engineering from an accredited college can only be used to substitute for one year of full-time satisfactory work experience in environmental engineering.

License Requirement

A Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York may be required for some assignments. Employees must maintain this license for the duration of their employment in such assignment.

This position is exempt from NYC residency requirements.

 

(Assistant Landscape Architect – Job ID# 433621)

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in landscape architecture from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and by the Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in landscape architectural and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in landscape architectural work; or
  • A valid New York Registration as a Landscape Architect.

Note: Landscape Architects with out-of-state registration are welcome to apply provided that reciprocal New York State registration is obtained prior to hire.

This position is exempt from NYC residency requirements.

 

PREFERRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong time management skills and the ability to stay organized while managing multiple projects.
  • Course work in hydrology, landscape architecture, geology, soil science or other environmental fields.
  • Excellent quantitative analytical and technical design skills.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Excel, PowerPoint, Photoshop, and InDesign.
  • Familiarity with GIS, ArcHydro, TR55, HEC2 or other hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software.
  • Valid New York State driver license.

 

Salary:  $57,078 – $85,646 plus excellent benefits
