HENRYBUILT design + integrity + fit
We founded Henrybuilt in 2001 to bring a new level of design, integrity and fit to the places that are most important in the home. We’ve developed a family of inter-related, highly refined products that our design team carefully tailors to how people live. Our systems, together with our design service, combine hand crafted beauty with years of focused innovation – resulting in an industrially engineered product that is adaptable to a range of tastes and reflects and adds to the architectural quality of a space.
Henrybuilt is seeking a Designer within our NYC office. You will be collaborating directly with the Vice President of Design on both client projects and special projects within the company. During your first two years, training and results with performance will create a path for designers to lead their own project base, as well as a potential long term design lead opportunity in our showroom in Mill Valley, CA.
Design solutions are technically and aesthetically advanced, but also well integrated into the architecture of the individual project. Our design approach is focused on creating an end result that will stand up formally and functionally to high use as well as changing living dynamics.
We need portfolio and experience to illustrate a pattern of developing exceptional design solutions and communications with various client groups. Creating beautiful results and talented on multiple levels.
Responsibilities will encompass the entire design process. Requirements include a minimum of 2 to 8 years experience with a focus in residential design. Proficiency with AutoCad. Must demonstrate through references knowledge of the complete process and a consistent ability to follow though and meet deadlines. A bachelor’s degree in architecture or interior design is required.
We are seeking individuals that have demonstrated exceptional drive to succeed and share a keen interest in working as part of a team to build a top tier brand.

Julianna Morais, Vice President of Design, Henrybuilt:
After receiving my M.Arch. from Georgia Tech, I started my career at Morphosis and then moved on to Frank Gehry’s office in Los Angeles. I spent 10 years at these great firms working on exciting projects, but I did very little actual design. Though I was successful and grew into leadership positions, much of my work involved executing the details and carrying out others’ design decisions.
I joined Henrybuilt in 2007 as a Senior Designer. Despite more than a decade in the field, I had almost no experience dealing directly with clients, and I did not know much about system design. At the time, Henrybuilt was young as a company, so I was unsure how much design I would end up doing – or the breadth of experience I would get. After meeting the key people and visiting the Seattle workshop I was so impressed that I knew I needed to join this group – without really knowing what I was getting into.
My time at Henrybuilt has been incredibly expansive. In the 11 years since joining the company, I have been through hundreds of design cycles on a vast range of projects. I realized that going through that cycle over and over is how one truly learns.
I’ve met – and continue to meet – amazing clients. I’ve worked on projects in so many different settings – coast to coast, Mexico City to Telluride, and everywhere in between. The work I’ve done with my team directly affects the lives of our clients. The result has been enormously gratifying.
I’ve learned how a team works together to design and build a company. I’ve also participated in one of the most interesting areas of thought in design: system thinking. I’ve contributed to growing a company that is at the intersection of system design and handcrafted manufacturing. Every client project is unique. Our design practice is rooted in how clients want to feel while living in the spaces we help create.
Design at Henrybuilt is about creating interior architecture that is truly exceptional – with a team and company culture that are also exceptional. Henrybuilt continues to grow, which will bring new opportunities to those on the design team. This company is going places.
If this story strikes a chord for you, you have significant architectural experience, and you are interested in having an experience like mine, I would like to hear from you.
