Jocelyn O Dickson Architecture (JODA)Position: Architectural Designer (2+ years experience)
We are a small, woman-owned architecture and design practice based in Portland, Maine. Our project types include residential and hospitality, with a focus on adaptive re-use and historic homes. We draw inspiration from the beauty of our natural landscape and coastal vernaculars, and work at scales ranging from site design to custom furniture and cabinetry details. We take pride in our ability to listen to and collaborate with our clients as well as other project team members. We are passionate about what we do and committed to creating an enjoyable process and positive, supportive work environment.
We are seeking a designer with 2+ years of professional experience, an interest in residential design, and a joyful attitude to join our studio. We would prefer in-person but remote work is an option.
As an Architectural Designer at JODA, you will:
- Participate in all phases of the design process, from concept / schematic design through construction
- Produce and present working drawings, presentations, digital models, and renderings that illustrate design concepts for both clients and internal review
- Complete construction document sets for single-family residential + small hospitality projects
- Develop custom design details for interior and architectural project elements
- Communicate with clients, project consultants + municipalities / building departments
- Assist with project coordination tasks
- Collaborate on the creation of branded assets, social media strategy, website design and updates, and other miscellaneous pieces
- Research applicable building codes / zoning restrictions
- Prepare material palettes, research product specs., manage project schedules
Job requirements include:
- 2+ years of work experience in an architectural / design practice
- Solid grasp of AutoCAD and Adobe InDesign
- Understanding of design and construction processes in custom single-family residential projects
- Comfortable with 3D modeling / rendering software
- Experience with permitting / construction documents and a familiarity with residential construction is a major plus
- Must be a self-starter, with the willingness to take initiative and responsibility for projects / tasks
